Point #2 Knowledge Serialization needs to be solved.

Basically we need an extended "storage" of our brain -- just like you have external hard-drive for your computer.

The functionality of knowledge serialization is not only for storage, it is a solid foundation for machine(computer?) to have the same knowledge-base for any further process.

We write notes, use online bookmark, search information... All these are early stage of ways of serialization, although this serialization is more about information, not about about knowledge.

For those who does not know him, Markus is the founder of Plentyoffish.com, one of the largest free dating site in the world.

I agree with what he wrote and think it is actually an issue of what I called "Brain Integration".
If my brain can communicate with your brain directly without go through writing/reading/talking/listening, things will move as fast as we think!

In order to achieve that, one of steps will be able to backup our brain -- just like backup your data.
More technically speaking, serialization of the content of brain.

Information is useless while knowledge is useful [Part 1]

As of now, I think the technology solutions we have are pretty good to process INFORMATION.

With so much information in web right now, just like other people, I feel the information is so much that it almost becomes useless. It is more and more difficult for me to find the information I want.

So it is more and more urgent to come up a solution to process KNOWLEDGE.

People did so many research in artificial intelligence(AI) field for so long. Yet I did not see a good solution so far, for AI in general and in knowledge management particular.

This shows again that how little we know about our own brains :-)

I am not an expert on this and am not doing research for living. But I am interested in this enough to do some research and do my own thinking during spare time. I will try to write down what I know(or I think what I know) here. Hope to come out at least 2 good things:
1) your comments;
2) organizing my own thinking.

Enough meta-information. Here is the point one.

Point #1 It is not possible to develop a software as an AI solution without human intervention.

The reason is very simple, if it is possible, it should have been done already. So I think it is a wrong approach to develop any 100% automated software system as AI solution.

Well, if you think my "prove" is too naive, let us try another way. Software is nothing but a set of logic, or in a more concise way, Any software can be formed into a formula(OK, OK, a complicated one). You give inputs, and you will get the predicted outputs. But logic becomes static as soon as you finish the development. And this static, predicted logic will never being intelligence.

Intelligence is more about a dynamic process instead of a static state.

After years without its own Website, Wired magazine (or, rather, its parent company, Conde Nast) is buying back Wired News for $25 million. Back during the bubble years, Wired had sold the news site to Lycos for $83 million. So it's as if Lycos was borrowing the site for the past seven years and is now returning it like a used car and taking whatever cash it can get for it. (Albeit, it's a nice used car—the folks over at Wired News cover their beat well given their up-till-now limited resources).
Although the site continued to host the magazine's content throughout the years, it wasn't controlled by Wired—which in turn was contractually barred from doing anything else online. The deal will overturn this bizarre and (to Wired editor Chris Anderson) frustrating situation. But you can bet that the real impetus behind the deal is that online advertising is finally becoming a viable source of revenues for major media companies like our competitors over at Conde Nast (as well as us over here at Time Inc.), and the one of the few ad sources that is actually growing.

It is an interesting topic and the following is my comment.

What is definition of Friendship?
In an old way, a person talking almost everything to her/his close friend(s). If this close friend happen to have a good knowledge of this topic, then you are lucky, othewise it is very tough to share it with this friend -- although a close friend.
I am a IT guy and have a lot of close friends also doing IT. Of course, it is very easy for me to share experience of C++, PHP, JAVA and AJAX with them. But I am interested in Fashion too, then this part of me is very hard to be shared with these close friends :-)
I think internet is just redefine a lot of things, including friendship.

Amazon CTO Werner Vogels revealed that a group of Amazon engineers is looking at ways to use Amazon Web services to bridge Amazon with Second Life. According to a comment by Vogels at the virtual-worlds blog 3pointD.com, it's not an official project. But it's no secret that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is an investor in Second Life creator Linden Lab, so I don't doubt those engineers will come up with something.

We see that v2.0 get 40% less downloads than v1.0. Why? Mostly because software developers make their second release much more powerful (and complex) than the first one. People who haven't used the very first version often can't figure out how to use v2.0

ITWire has an arcitle named " Opera making big profits from free software" . It explains why Opera can generating $14 Million gross profit out of $30 Million revenue.

The company has several main revenue sources. It licenses the browser to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), such as Motorola, to operating system owners, such as Symbian and user Interface (UI)/middleware owners, such as Canal+. Since 2003 it has focussed on offering the browser directly to other players that are placed higher in the value chain such as mobile operators.

It also collects revenue from integrated search and shopping bars, and partner companies pay a fee to Opera every time a user users the integrated search or shopping bar. Opera cooperates with a few select partners it feels can contribute value to its product and users. It says that deals with companies like Google, Fast, Lycos, InfoSeek, Yahoo, Amazon, and eBay are showing constant growth in revenues for Opera.

Opera also delivers a full-featured, embeddable version of its desktop browser that can be integrated into a wide range of applications. Adobe and Macromedia are important partners in this segment.

And when users subscribe to the premium version of its Webmail service, Opera splits the revenue with Outblaze, the company that operates the service.

I think this is very interesting topic and here is my comment on Ben's post:

Here is my 2 cents.

Advertising is about impression. This is true for website and TV. Impression itself can not directly guarantee a sale but it does increase the odd. Therefore, any platform that can generate impressions has some value. So popular site has a value, popular TV channel has value…

Then the question become how much it worth when a site has this much viewers. This is a tricky question especially for social website.

I think social website has more adversiting value than tradition media(TV, web1.0) since it has another dimension of marketing channel — word of mouth.

Basially, I think internet itself now is a big social community.
